On Wednesday, August 6th, the Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps of Concord, California, descended on Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, for their last rehearsal of the season going into the 2014 Drum Corps International (DCI) World Championships. “This is a very special night for the Blue Devils,” sald Al Murray, Product Manager for System Blue, an all-encompassing program of products, education, and publishing created by the Blue Devils and their partners and distributed worldwide. Murray continued, “This rehearsal is the last chance for all the performers to lay it on the line to mentally prepare for what is ahead in the next couple of days.” Mark Gifford, Category Manager for King Marching Brass at Conn-Selmer, met with the Blue Devils ahead of their rehearsal and had this to say, “What they do is simply incredible, and to be able to partner with a world-class organization such as the Blue Devils is of great benefit to the music industry and music education.”
With an undefeated season behind them, the Blue Devils entered quarterfinals Thursday night poised to make this week an especially memorable one with their show entitled “Felliniesque”. Italian filmmaker Federico Fellini was considered to be one of the greatest and influential filmmakers of the 20th century, and this show encompasses a story and a passion that combine the musical artistry and creativity of that time.
After Thursday’s performance, the Blue Devils were awarded a score of 98.55, followed by the Cadets (96.925), the Bluecoats (95.8), Santa Clara Vanguard (95.45), and Carolina Crown (94.75). This puts the Blue Devils in a great position going into the semifinals Friday night at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
In addition to the Blue Devils “A” corps activity, the Blue Devils Open Class “B” corps won its fourth DCI Open Class Championship on Monday August 4th in Michigan City, Indiana, with a score of 82.65 and will continue its journey this week as one of two Open Class corps competing in the semifinals this evening.
The Blue Devils organization performs exclusively on System Blue Marching Brass made by King at the Conn-Selmer Facility located in Eastlake, Ohio.
