Prior to the merging of the band programs, Jeramiah Bowman, former Director of Bands at Southside High School, John Clark, former Director of Bands at Wilson Middle School, Robby Tompkins, Executive Director of Cornerstone for the Arts, and Mike Kamphuis, Managing Director for Conn-Selmer’s Division of Education began collaborating on a massive project to replace the inventory at Wilson MS and supplement the inventory at Southside HS. This effort was awarded in the fall of 2013 with grant monies from The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County in the spring of 2014 from the George and Frances Ball Foundation. This enabled Muncie Community Schools to purchase new instruments for the 2014-2015 school year to support the now consolidated high school under the Co-Direction of Clay Arnett and Jeramiah Bowman, and the new Southside Middle School, under the direction of John Clark. Conn-Selmer is providing these new instruments and Central High School and Southside Middle School are now part of the Conn-Selmer School program. Band Director Jeramiah Bowman, who is also a volunteer every year at the Conn-Selmer Institute run by Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser, VP of Education at Conn-Selmer, expressed his delight: “The music faculty and I are very excited to work with Conn-Selmer to bring these new instruments to the students of Muncie Central High School and Muncie Southside Middle School. The designation as a Conn-Selmer School program is a distinction we are thrilled to receive.”
Michael Kamphuis, Managing Director of Conn-Selmer’s Division of Education echoed this sentiment: “It is outstanding to see the passion and drive shown by the faculty to make this program the best it can possibly be. We are grateful to partner with the local School Music Dealer Muncie Music with this project. In addition, we look forward to working with the Muncie band staff now and for many years to come.”
